Should You Give Your Dogs Apples this Fall?

Tis the season for our fall favorites, but which ones should we share with our furry friends and which ones should we take home for ourselves.

It's officially fall. The humidity (thank goodness) has started to exit the Midwest and we have more time to enjoy the weather out and about with our friends and furry friends.

We absolutely want to be taking extra walks with our dogs and spending as much time as we can loving them as we watch the leaves begin to change colors.

One of the most fun spots for fall in the Midwest is an apple orchard. You'll have to check with your favorite orchard if they let you puppy join you through the farm or not but when you bring fresh apples home should you share them with your dog?

According to the American Kennel Club, yes, you definitely should share them!

Your dog will reap the benefits of apples just like you do, apples are full of fiber, they clean your teeth and they're a healthy sweet treat.

However, you want to be very careful to make sure your dog is only eating the fruit of the apple, not the seeds, stem or core. The American Kennel Club says the seeds contain a small amount of cyanide and your dog could easily choke on the stem or core.

Also, a whole apple it likely too much for your pup, so maybe cut some slices up and share your favorite variety.
